Packing Tips for Future PCV's

As I prepared for my new adventure I remember trying to figure out what the heck to bring. I had no idea where to start. Now that I am over 3 months into my Peace Corps expirience, I thought I would share some packing tips - especially for anyone going to a tropical country.

I’m glad I brought:
-          A headlamp
-          A Nalgene
-          Several pairs of flip flops for showering and hanging out in - they get ruined VERY easily here
-          Baby wipes
-          Re-chargeable batteries
-          2 bathing suits
-          2 towels – don’t have to be quick dry
-          Cute tank tops and tops for going out in
-          A couple pairs of shorts
-          Socks to exercise – if you don’t exercise don’t bring socks
-          A cute but durable pair of mary-jane style merrels – I use these all the time, everywhere
-          A journal
-          A kindle
-          An external hard drive filled with movies and tv shows
-          A laptop
An MP3 player for running/ using to motivate your excercise class
-          Markers/crayons/pens/highlighters
-          Yarn/twine  - SO HAPPY I BROUGHT THIS
-          Clothes pins - TO HANG UP PICTURES ON THE TWINE
-          My own set of sheets – makes me feel more at home
-          A couple pairs of jeans
-          Cotton underwear
-          Astringent – good for cooling off your face and getting all the dirt off
-          Tupperware – although I wish I brought more, a lot of my food is getting chewed through by who knows what animal
-          My own pillow – thanks to my sister who essentially forced me to pack one
-          Off wipes
-          An umbrella
-          Cute sandals
-          A maxi dress
-          Solar charger
-          Cheap jewelry
-          Surge Protector
-          Host family gifts and stuff for kids in the community

Things I wish I brought – most things I can get here but are just too expensive
-          Cuter clothes – people here dress quite nice and I brought a lot of camp-y clothes, even though I was advised not to by many current PCVs
-          Loose tank tops for working out or sleeping in
-          Running sneakers
-          My comfy college sweatpants – it’s really hot here but when the fever strikes I want to be ready
-          Decorative nick-nacks to decorate my room
-          Picture frames
-          A small mirror

Things I wish I left home:
-          A second set of sheets
-          A sleeping bag – then again I’m in the hottest part of the country
-          An alarm clock
-          So many camp-y t-shirts
